c. Sanitation Support 2017-2018  (Kalay, Netravali, Sanguem Taluka)

The sanitation support for the FY 2017-2018 was given to Kalay, Netravali -Sanguem Taluka in collaboration with Colorcon Asia Pvt. Ltd.   A total

During routine visits of our project staff and surveys carried out, it was noted that Mangal, Nunem, Talsai villages from Netravali Village Panchayat areas, and Devnamol, Muslimwada and Voldev villages from Kalay Panchayat areas have sanitation problems, as there are either no toilets in the villages or some of the toilets provided by government are either broken or not in an usable condition.

After combining all the six villages there are around 309 households out of which 218 don’t have toilet facility. Villagers have to go in the open to defecate which in turn leads to several health problems. Lack of proper sanitation facilities impacts the health, and environment. With open defecation ground water gets contaminated that is used for drinking and cleaning purposes resulting in water borne diseases. Basic health is determined by the number of factors such as personal hygiene, clean environment, safe and clean drinking water, nutritional intake and healthcare facilities. Based on our previous experiences, toilets are also a boon for women who otherwise have to go out in the open, and are shy to do so, or face risk of going out in the open at night.

Project Objectives:

To contribute in providing support to village & infrastructure development (Sanitation issues) to Mangal, Nunem, Talsai, Devnamol, Muslimwada, & Voldev villages of Sanguem Taluka and improve livelihood of community.

Impact of the Project on the Lives of the Beneficiaries/Community/Target Group.

  • Open defecation free villages & increase in overall personal hygiene plus village cleanliness.
  • Improvements in overall personal hygiene and decrease in waterborne diseases.
  • Impact on environment.
  • No contamination of underground water bodies.
  • Safety for women and girls and for villagers from going out in the open/fields/ jungles when it is dark.
